We’re not sure when Father’s Day became synonymous with New Tie Day, but here at FitStar we think it’s time for tradition to evolve. Don’t get us wrong, a new tie is a great gift, but so is quality time with family or new fitness equipment. This Father’s Day we’re honoring all the dads by planning some fit and fun activities to do together.

Is your dad a gardening enthusiast? A baseball all star? Whatever your dad’s favorite hobby is, here are seven ways to have a fun and fit Father’s Day:

#1 – Grand (Mini) Golfer
If you and your dad are actual golfers, than a day on the green is a no-brainer. However, your whole family can take things a lot less seriously by attempting to whack golf balls into tiny windmills. It might not be strenuous exercise, but walking around a mini golf course (and laughing heartily when, inevitably, it takes someone FOREVER to make the shot) still counts as activity for the day.

#2 – Green Thumb Gardener
Is your dad most at home in the backyard? If he spends his weekends pruning roses, trimming shrubs, and monitoring beds of vegetables, then a gift for the garden is ideal. Buy him a few starter plants of heirloom tomatoes or a couple new flowers pots. For a free option, make a coupon good for a day or two of gardening together. If your dad doesn’t have a green space of his own, plan a trip to to a local rose garden, botanical garden or even a fruit-picking farm. Just make sure you stop and smell those roses together.

#3 – Heroic Hiker
For most of the world, June is a good weather month, so hopefully Sunday will bring some sunshine and you can get outside. Taking a nice walk or hiking with Dad is a great way to make memories. Plan ahead and pack water and snacks if you’re hitting the trails. For a special treat, pick Dad up and drive out to a beach for a barefoot jaunt in the sand, or map out a fun urban walk in a historic part of your town.

#4 – Brilliant Bird Watcher
Can your dad spot the difference between a Green Singing Finch, a European Goldfinch and a Saffron Finch? If so, maybe a day at an aviary is in store for your family! Bird watchers, or twitchers, to the British, would love some time dedicated to scouting and studying the species. If an aviary is not an option where you live, consider hitting some trails with a pair of binoculars and a guidebook or two on birds native to your area. Dad will love it, and the whole family will get some exercise!

#5 – Ballin’ Baseballer
With baseball season in full swing, going to a game and cheering on your team is a memorable experience to share with your dad. However, you could have just as much fun in the park as you might in the stands, and you’ll get more exercise if you’re playing the game. Grab a mit and play catch together, or gather a group to have a friendly game of softball.

#6 – Bonafide Bowler or Roller
If it’s too hot (or not hot enough) where you live to enjoy a day outside, check out some indoor entertainment. Bowling and roller skating are two great ways to burn off breakfast and have a few laughs with your family. Whether you are a super competitive or just in it for fun, we think time spent at a bowling alley or roller rink would make a memorable day.

#7 – Fantastic FitStar Father
If the special Dad in your life lives out of town, or you’re looking for a last minute gift then you can still give the gift of fitness by sending him a year’s subscription for FitStar Personal Trainer. Is he already a FitStar? Then get Dad the only new hardware he needs: a Fitbit. This groundbreaking gift will help him stay on track with his fitness journey and in sync with his goals. With lots of styles and options to choose from, we know you’ll find something he’ll love.
